Todd Shea | The un-American American

The New York times posted a video on Thursday about the life of an American who is running a charity hospital in a small Pakistani village.

Todd Shea, a 42 year old American, came to Pakistan after the October 8, 2005 Earthquake.  Even after 4 years, he is still in Pakistani administered Kashmiri village ‘Chikar’, running an NGO. Todd says; “The reason I didn’t feel like to leave was because I felt that I could do something for the children that would last for generations. ”

Todd Shea is the Executive Director of Comprehensive Disaster Response Services ( CDRS) Pakistan, an NGO which aims to provide quick, efficient and compassionate medical and humanitarian relief to the people of earthquake affected areas of Pakistan. The NGO has developed a medical facility in Chikar which runs on about 170,000 US Dollars a year. Most of the funding comes from UNICEF and Pakistani Americans. The hospital is free for all and has all the basic medical facilities.

Todd had never thought of running an NGO and living in Pakistan. He says; “If anyone ever came up to me and said there are gonna be all these disasters and you are gonna respond and then you’ll end up living in Paksitan, I’d have said man what kinda drug are you smokin’? ”

CHUP! has more to say about it.
